The single “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz was released on May 30th, 2010, and managed to reach the #2 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100.1 The line “I throw my hands up in the air sometimes saying ayo, gotta let go” was used to create the basic template “I throw my X up in the air sometimes saying ayo, Y”, where X usually refers to a noun that relates to Y, and Y usually refers to a word that rhymes with “ayo”.
Spread
Search queries spiked shortly after the song’s released during the summer of 2010. There was a smaller spike in October 2010, before going into a steady decline.
Usage has spread to various websites including Tumblr2, Deviant Art3, and Facebook.4
