Karate Kyle is an image macro series similar to Vengeance Dad and PTSD Clarinet Boy where the original photo is digitally composited with the subject’s head blown up around him with the opacity increased. The text generally alludes to Karate Kyle having done some sort of disturbing or violent act in retaliation.

On February 24, a picture of the original Karate Kyle photo was uploaded to YouTuber James Von Helton’s Facebook page. After being posted to 4chan, image macros began to be created. The first Reddit post was titled “they broke my pencils…” but had no mention of “Karate Kyle”. The second Reddit thread titled “Introducing Karate Kyle” was posted later on the same daywith a round-up of Karate Kyle image macros.
