The Spoon Prank aka Wooden Spoon Trick consists on engaging in a spoon smacking contest. The catch is that the spoon, usually a wooden one, must be held in the participants’ mouth. This severely limits the strength at which the spoon can be swung. Each participant takes turns trying to smack the other’s head with the spoon held in their mouth.
Unbeknownst to one contestant (the victim), there are actually three participants in this game. The victim’s apparent opponent is in cohorts with another “player” who is not held by the spoon-held-in-mouth rule. Therefore, the third participant can smack the victim’s head with the wooden spoon at full force, usually with painful and often hilarious outcomes, as the victim cannot understand the source or technique of his opponent’s swing.
Origin
Although the prank has been known long time ago, the prank gained online popularity thanks to a Lift Plus (an energy drink available in New Zealand) commercial uploaded in youtube in March, 2007 [1].
