About
Tax Master is the nickname given to Patrick Cox, the founder and spokesperson of U.S. tax relief / consulting firm Tax Masters, Inc. Most well known for appearing in late-night spot commercials with catchphrases like “ARE YOU BEING AUDITED?” or “we’ll solve your tax problems,” photoshopped images of Patrick Cox have been often summoned by 4chan users in GET threads.
Origin
The Commercial
Since early 2009, Tax Masters has been running a series of 30-second spot commercials featuring Patrick Cox, the company’s founder and spokesperson. In the commercials, Cox advertises his company as being openly willing to confront the IRS, claiming that his clients will get respect and fair treatment from the IRS. For the complete listings of his commercials, visit the company’s website.
On 4chan
In early 2011, an image of Patric Cox photoshopped in style of Shoop Da Woop began to circulate on 4chan’s /b/ (random) board, featuring GET messages like “only quads can kill the tax master.” In chanspeak, “quad” refers to an event in which the last four digits of a sequential post ID turn up identical (EX:80215555). This often leads to a large number of posts right before a desirable “GET” is about to come up. There are numerous versions of the GET depending on which version of the Tax Master is “reborn.”

While the popularity of GET threads (especially on doubles or triples) remain contentious on 4chan as others consider it as spam, Taxmaster images remain a common sight on 4chan as the Tax Day approaches in mid-April. As seen in some of the popular macro examples, the notion of being him “reborn” suggests the death of Taxmaster is a false promise driven by trolls.

Parodies
On YouTube, the Tax Masters commercials also became a target for parody and much lulz with Patrick Cox at the center. His commercials spawned several parody videos such as the following:
The commercial was then parodied by Saturday Night Live and the video is featured on the Taxmasters website:
Lawsuit
On March 14th, 2011, Houston-based tax firm was sued by the Texas’ Attorney General on accounts of scamming over a thousand customers out of their money; the business has been since put on temporary restraining orders.
